Eagles Deli: Are You Up to the Challenge?

Eagles Deli
Eagles Deli

If you are a student of Boston College, a die-hard BC Eagles fan, or a die-hard burger aficionado,    odds are you are a devoted customer of the Eagles Deli.  Located in the neighborhood of Brighton, just down the road from Boston College, Eagles Deli does deli food and hamburgers, like nobody else in Boston.

Eagles Deli features a well-stocked menu of diner items from omelets, to pancakes, to hot dogs, salads, fries, and their most famous choice, burgers!  Why not sample…

Bianco–Grilled peppers, onions, mushrooms, and american cheese

Inferno–Grilled onions, jalapenos, hot sauce, and cheddar cheese

Cowboy–Grilled onions, BBQ sauce, bacon, and cheddar cheese

Swiss Mushroom —Grilled mushrooms, lettuce, tomatoes, and Swiss cheese

Ranch Burger–Bacon, ranch dressing, lettuce, tomatoes, and american cheese

Bacon-Blue Burger–Crisp bacon, sharp blue cheese, lettuce, and tomato

Brunch Burger–Fried egg topped with bacon, lettuce, tomato, and provolone cheese

The New Yorker–Grilled pastrami, Swiss cheese, and brown mustard

"I'll have a Bianco, with fries and drink!"
“I’ll have a Bianco, with fries and drink!”

While these are no doubt, tantalizing, the real main attraction at this deli are the massive challenge burgers.  Burgers that dare you to bust your gut, and probably your wallet.

Nick Lachey —1 1/2lbs of burger, 6pcs of swiss cheese, 6pcs of bacon, 1/2lbs of fries, and a fountain soda.

Cowabunga–2lbs of burger, 8pcs of american cheese, 1/2lbs of fries, 1 deli pickle, and a fountain soda.

Reilly Burger–3lbs of burger, 12pcs of american cheese, 2lbs of fries, 1 deli pickle, and a fountain soda.

Paul Jones–4lbs of burger, 16pcs of american cheese, 5lbs of fries, 1 deli pickle, and a fountain soda.

Eagle’s Challenge–5lbs of burger, 20pcs of bacon, 20pcs of american cheese, 5lbs of fries, 1 deli pickle, and a fountain soda.**

"Hungry?!"
“Hungry?!”

To complete the Eagle’s Challenge, the challenger will have one hour to finish all the food on their plate (5 pounds of burger, 20 pieces of bacon, 20 slices of American cheese, 5 pounds of fries, 1 giant pickle, and a fountain soda).  The challenger must finish the meal while in the presence of restaurant cooks and owners, and not leave any piece of the meal uneaten or untouched.  Should the challenger finish the meal, he or she will be awarded $100 dollars in cash.  In addition, the challenge burger will be named after said winner.  But like all records, they are all meant to be broken; a new challenge burger will be christened, which will be 1 whole pound bigger, and have 4 additional pieces of bacon and cheese, and have 1 more pound of fries!  Whoever can eat that, will live on forever on the menu as the newest burger, until the next hungry contestant can devour the new challenge, and so forth.

**On February 13, 2010, the Eagles Challenge was devoured by Pete Czerwinski in just 45 minutes; the new Challenge Burger has been renamed “Furious Pete”.  Anyone looking to join the challenge menu must now gird their loins for a 6 pound burger, with 24 pieces of bacon, 24 slices of American cheese, 6 pounds of fries, and of course, 1 whole pickle!  Whew!
