The Thurman Cafe: Ohio’s BIGGEST Burger

Deep in the heart of the Buckeye state, just a short distance from the campus of Ohio State, you’ll find a cafe that serves up a hamburger of epic proportions.  A hamburger that is the stuff of legends.  A hamburger that is so gargantuan, you’ll be almost too tempted not to eat as it just awe inspiring.  But, some things are meant to be taken apart and devoured.  In this case, it is the Thurman Burger at Columbus’ Thurman Cafe.

Located near downtown Columbus and Ohio State’s main campus, The Thurman Cafe offers up some of the biggest burgers in all of Ohio, if not the country.  The signature dish is the Thurman Burger, an epic masterpiece that starts with a seasoned 12 oz patty (3/4 pound!), lettuce, tomato, pickle chips, banana peppers, and a smidge of mayo.  But we’re not done yet.  Those ingredients go underneath the massive meat patty.  This burger is topped with melted cheddar and Swiss cheese, sauteed mushrooms, sauteed onions (you’re gonna wanna ask for extra onions if possible), and finally, smoked ham!  Hey, it is a ham-burger, after all!  It comes with a side of kettle chips for the perfect crunch.  If you have the stomach for it, ask for a side of their fresh-cut fries.  These are the real deal as they keep the skins on them and are hot and fresh out of the fryer.  You might wanna share’em, but good luck trying to!

From the second I picked up this unbelievable burger, it was so hard trying to keep it together.  It was a challenge itself to keep this burger intact without the use of scaffolding or a tarp.  I dove into the meaty goodness and came out with a faceful of onions, ham and cheese.  My eyes practically rolled up into the back of my head; it was practically an out of body experience.  Alas, I did not bring my A-game and finish the entire Thurman burger; I have let you down, Buckeyes.

Just when I thought the Thurman burger was the greatest burger on the menu, there was another jaw-dropping dish that I just had to see to believe.  A burger that practically dwarfs the Thurman Burger and all of its toppings.  I give you, the Thurminator.  This was specifically developed for weightlifters whose mighty muscles crave massive quantities of protein for pumping up.  Somehow, it made it way from the gym diet to those who throw diets to the wind.  It is a double-stacked burger that takes two Thurman burgers and puts them together in a double-decker tower of awesomeness!  I did not have the stomach for this masterpiece.  I did, however, witness someone sitting across from the bar that did order this burger.  It was like seeing a rare endangered species in the wild; one had to see it to believe it!
