The Hamptons often conjures up images of Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous with a pastoral, beach setting adjacent. Beyond the upscale boutiques and marinas, you’ll find scores of neighborhood bars and bistros that cater to anyone. Whether you just came from the Hamptons Classic horse show or you’re vacationing for the weekend at a nearby motel, you’re likely to find a place that won’t break your budget but will fill you up right. One such place is Rowdy Hall in East Hampton. Tucked away in a small alley on the main drag of Rt. 27 in downtown, Rowdy Hall is the place to be if you are looking for fine food, fun crowds, good times, and a round of drinks. Open for lunch and dinner, seven days a week, you’ll find some of the best comfort food on Long Island. For starters, their bar fare is hard to miss. Try their bite-size corn dogs served skewered with a sweet sriracha dipping sauce. Snack on their candied bacon strips with blue cheese dip.
The two best dishes at this place include the roquefort-walnut salad, which combines butter and boston lettuce with candied pecans, chunks of blue cheese with roquefort, and slices of endive. To really get the most out of this salad, spread the blue cheese crumbles on the endive like butter on toast. For an entree, order up the Rowdy Burger, which for my money, is one of the juiciest burgers in all of Long Island. Be sure to get it with fried onions and for the daring, a few strips of bacon. The fries, however, are what really puts this meal way over the top. They are indeed fresh as the skins are left intact. The toughest thing about these spectacular spuds are sharing them; they are so good, you may just wanna be selfish about it. It’s ok, we won’t tell!
