Croatia

This former Yugoslav republic has been an independent country since 1992, following the break up of Yugoslavia. Through most of the 1990’s, this country suffered much during the Yugoslav Civil War, in which the famed walled city of Dubrovnik was heavily shelled. But in the years since, many Americans have been rediscovering one of the most scenic countries in Europe. From the pristine coastline of the Adriatic Sea, to the seaside ports, the many castles, and beautiful cities have made Croatia one of the hottest tourism spots in Europe. Although this country may lack any noticeable landmarks or buildings like several other, larger European countries, that may give this place less of a touristy feel.
