Situated about 150 miles south of Miami, this island city has the tropical feel of Hawaii, with the flair of the Caribbean, combined with the flavor of New Orleans, and just a hint of old world Cuba, sans the communism. Key West is the largest and southernmost island in the archipelago of the Florida Keys. The remote location doesn’t stop this place from being one of the hottest tourism destinations in the Sunshine State. Many natives refer to this city as the Conch Republic, due to a time not too long ago when, thanks to an unusual territorial clause, this island had short-lived period as an independent republic.
