Spicy Pie Pizza: Fargo’s Best Pizza

Pizza can be found coast to coast; from the opulent homes and lighthouse of Connecticut to the sun-drenched shores of California.  From the deep dish delights of Chicago to the coal-oven goodness of New York’s Little Italy.  But pizza isn’t just reserved for New Yorkers, as much as any purist will protest.  You can find amazing slices anywhere in America, especially in somewhere as remote as Fargo, North Dakota.  Down on Broadway, the main thoroughfare that goes through downtown, and just a few doors down from the historic Fargo Theater, you’ll find a neighborhood hot stop called Spicy Pie Pizza.  Flags from ND State and photos of Fargo hang along the wooden and brick interior of this joint.  Beyond the classic pepperoni, you’ll find slices that prove the old adage that variety is indeed the spice of life.  Toppings that would normally make any purist wince but no hungry individual could ever turn away.  Ever had pizza with taco toppings?  How about one with cheeseburger fixings?  That was the slice I went with and it was quite the experience.  The melted cheddar combined with ground beef, bacon bits, onions and pickle slices made this an unforgettable taste.  As for the name of this establishment, it gets its name from a slice that is definitely loaded with spice!  Take your classic marinara sauce with pepper sauce, combine spicy Italian sausage, banana peppers, slices of fresh jalapeños and throw it all together under a blanket of cheese laden with ghost peppers and this is one pizza you will not soon forget.  The spiciness was satisfying at first; it wasn’t until about 5-10 minutes later that the intense heat from the ghost pepper cheese kicked in and my face was numb as you could imagine.

If pizza isn’t your thing, try one of their laundry list of subs.  The subs are the equivalent of putting pizza toppings between two hoagie rolls.  Messy?  A little.  Delicious?  Indeed.  For dessert, try one of their sweet knots.  Taking a cue from the garlic knot, gone is the garlic and replaced with sweet vanilla icing or gooey cinnamon sugar.

Sweet Knots: They’re KNOT Delicious!
